Brad: You know, I’m often asked the difference between a Canadian Certified Pedorthist and other foot care professionals. First let me explain that Canadian Certified Pedorthists are foot orthotic and orthopaedic footwear experts. We are trained in the treatment of lower limb conditions and foot pain.
Kimberly: There are many benefits to seeing a Canadian Certified Pedorthist. We undergo extensive training and testing to achieve our certification and we’re one of a few healthcare professionals trained in the assessment of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics. Because of our intensive training and expertise, we work as part of the physician’s healthcare team. We see patients with a referral from their physician, similar to the relationship between the physician and the pharmacist. This team approach and collaboration of healthcare professionals from various disciplines ensures the highest level of patient care.
At our initial consultation with the patient, we spend nearly an hour reviewing patient history, evaluating the patient’s walking patterns and conducting a thorough, biomechanical evaluation, looking at all aspects of the foot and lower limb to determine the best treatment options possible.
Brad: The first step is to consult your family physician. If you have foot pain or have any questions about your foot or lower limb anatomy, your biomechanics, ask for a referral to a Canadian Certified Pedorthist.
